About Claude

Claude for Android is the official app from Anthropic for the Claude AI assistant. You can type or speak to Claude, attach photos and files, and continue conversations you started on the web or on a computer. The app is free, it needs a Claude account, and it is distributed through Google Play — the download button on this page leads there.

What can I do with the Claude app?

The app covers the everyday uses of Claude on a phone. You can ask questions and draft texts in a chat, use voice to talk instead of typing, take a photo of a document or a whiteboard and ask about it, or share a file from another app. Your chat history is tied to your account, so the conversation you had on a laptop in the morning is waiting for you on the phone later.

Does Claude run on the phone itself?

No. The Claude models run in Anthropic's cloud. The app sends your messages there and shows the replies, so it needs an internet connection and does not work offline. That also means it does not depend on how powerful your phone is: an older, modest device handles the app just as well, as long as the connection is stable.

Is it free?

Downloading and installing the app costs nothing. With a Free plan you can use Claude within its limits; paid plans allow more usage. Plans and prices are listed on the official pricing page and change over time, so we do not quote them here. Claude is proprietary software, not open source.

How do I install it?

  1. Open the Claude listing on Google Play and check that the developer is Anthropic.
  2. Tap Install; Google Play tells you if your device is not supported.
  3. Open the app and sign in with your Claude account, or create one.
  4. Allow the microphone if you want to use voice, and the camera or files only when you need them.

Can I download a Claude APK instead?

We do not host or mirror the app, and we recommend installing it only from Google Play. The package name is com.anthropic.claude; a file with the same name from a mirror site gives you no advantage and no guarantee that it came from Anthropic.

Is there a desktop version?

Yes. Anthropic publishes an official Claude app for Windows as well, and Claude also works in a browser at claude.ai. All of them share one account and one history.

What are the upsides and downsides?

  • Upside: official app from Anthropic, free on Google Play.
  • Upside: voice, photos and files in the same chat.
  • Upside: history synced with the web and desktop apps.
  • Downside: requires an account and an internet connection.
  • Downside: heavier use needs a paid plan.
